MAFUNZO FC HOLDS RAYON SPORTS
Rayon Sports WFC began their 2026 CECAFA Women’s Champions League campaign with a disappointing goalless draw against Zanzibar’s Mafunzo FC in a match played in Rwanda.
The game was highly anticipated by Rayon Sports supporters, but Mafunzo FC proved they were not in Rwanda just to make up the numbers. The Zanzibar side put in a disciplined performance and successfully contained Rayon Sports throughout the match, which ended 0-0.
In the other Group A fixture, Yei Joint Stars WFC of South Sudan made a strong start to the tournament by defeating Denden WFC of Eritrea 3-0, placing themselves in a favorable position in the group standings.
With experience from previous editions of the competition, Rayon Sports will now need to improve in their upcoming matches if they hope to advance and challenge for the CECAFA title.
Could Mafunzo FC be the toughest obstacle Rayon Sports will face in the group stage?
